AIRTEL SPONSORS 15/- M


AIRTEL Tanzania has  come forward to sponsor this year’s Rock City Marathon which will be held on September 4th at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza at a  tune of 15m/-.
Airtel’s Public Relations Manager Jackson Mbando said that the sponsorship is the company’s appreciation on the role of sports it is playing in support of the economy.
He added that the company was also committed to ensure the local athletes excel by giving them a chance to display their skills.
“We are happy to be associated with this event which taking roots since its inception two years ago”, he said.
He said that the sponsorship covers cash and promotional materials such as T-Shirts, caps and banners.
With Airtel’s participation, the marathon coordinator from Capital-Plus International (CPI), an integrated communications firm said preparations for the eagerly awaited event are in top gear and urged more companies to come forward to support the event which promotes the domestic tourism concept through sports.
“We are grateful to other companies which have already come on board. This is another opportunity for companies to publicize their products and services”, she said.

Rock City Marathon Prizes Announced

ONE MILLLION shillings will be awarded to an athlete who will break the current nation’s record of 59 minutes for both men and women in the Rock City Marathon race of 21 kilometres which will be held on September 4th at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

The organisers have decided to offer such prize as motivation to the runners but also a gear of encouraging them to have a competitive spirit among those who will take part in the event.

More prizes will be offered this year with the purpose of encouraging and motivating runners who will step forward and take part with the purpose of uncovering and promoting more talented athletes in the country through Rock City event.
The runner who turnout to be the record breaker will receive the overall prize of one million Tanzanian shillings which is regarded as a challenge that can make runners build-up a strong competitive spirit in the tournament.

Winners in the 21 kilometres race will receive Tsh. 500,000/- for both male and female runners and the second place winners will be awarded Tsh. 300,000/-.
Ones who will take the third place receive Tsh. 200,000/- and for the forth up to 12 place each runner will be awarded Tsh. 90,000/- . Those who will be in the 13th up to 50th places will receive Tsh. 30,000/- for their participation.
21 winners on the 5 kilometres, 3 kilometres races for the disabilities, 3 kilometres for the olds and 2 kilometres for children each one of them will receive Tsh. 25,000/- for taking part in the event.

Big changes have been made in the prizes by adding more people who will receive prizes. We did this intentionally with the purpose of motivating all those that can take part in the spontaneous Rock City and awakening the participation spirit but also having a goal of promoting the local young athletes in the country.

Five East African Countries to Participate in Rock City Marathon 2011

FIVE countries are expected to participate in this year’s 21-kilometre race dubbed Rock City Marathon 2011 to be held in Mwanza on 4th September 2011.  

The marathon Coordinator Zaituni Ituja from Capital-Plus International (CPI) which organizes the annual marathon said that invitations have been extended to runners from the East African countries through their embassies in the country.

She listed the countries as Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi na Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where she added that they hope to have an increased number of East African runners to this year’s marathon which have been highly improved.

“It is encouraging to all sports stakeholders that invitations have been sent out to neighboring countries to participate in this year’s marathon and we expect to have more participants from neighboring countries as compared to previous years. This exhibits yearly growth of the marathon and also proves that the competition will be high”, said Ituja.

This annual race which is organized by CPI, an integrated communications firm and sanctioned by the Athletics Tanzania (AT) and the Mwanza Regional Athletics Association of Tanzania is grouped into five categories where the main race will cover 21 kilometres for both men and women. She mentioned other races as a five-kilometre corporate classic race, a three- kilometer race for people with disabilities, a three kilometer race for elderly (55years plus)  and a two-km for children(7-10).    

Ms Ituja said that the event which has proved to be a big success since it was initiated in 2009, aims to promote the domestic tourism concept through sports. “Mwanza is rich in touristic attractions and we intend this marathon to highlight Mwanza’s potential in tourism.  The half marathon will start at the CCM Kirumba Stadium, taking different routes and back to the stadium for the final lap”, she said.

Official sponsors for this year’s event are Geita Gold Mine, Air Tanzania Company Limited, Parastatal Pensions Fund (PPF), Bank M, MOIL, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), New Mwanza Hotel, Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).             

Registration fees raised from participants in these races will go to a fund supporting people with disabilities in Mwanza.

Nine Regions Confirms Participating Rock City marathon 2011

NINE regions have confirmed to participate in this year’s 21-kilometre race dubbed Rock City Marathon 2011 to be held in Mwanza on 4th September 2011.              

This year’s race will be the third following that of two previous years. The race is planned to start at the CCM Kirumba Stadium at 7:00am and will take different routes and back to the stadium for the final lap.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, The Coordinator Zaituni Ituja from Capital-Plus International (CPI) said the concerned associations are going on with their preparations so as to be assured with their participation.

She listed the regions as Dar es Salaam, Arusha, Manyara, Mara, Mwanza, Singida, Kagera, Tabora and Shinyanga where she added that they started receiving calls from individual athletes from the above mentioned regions showing interest to join the race.

“Some regions have confirmed to participate and they are going on with preparations but individual athletes also have shown interest on this, Capital Plus is proud and congratulates all stakeholders,” said Ituja.

3rd Edition of Rock City Marathon to be Held on Sept 4 2011

The Third Edition of Rock City Marathon will be held on September 4, 2011 at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in 
Mwanza.

The annual race which is organized by Capital-Plus International (CPI),an integrated communications firm, and sanctioned by the Athletics Tanzania (AT) and the Mwanza Regional Athletics Association of Tanzania (DAAA) is grouped into four categories.

Co-ordinator of the race, Ms Zaituni Ituja said at launch event of the race at New Africa Hotel in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the main race will cover 21 kilometres for both men and women.

She mentioned other races as a five-kilometre corporate classic race, a three- kilometer race for people with disabilities, a three kilometer race for elderly (55years plus)  and a two-km for children(7-10) .
Ms Ituja said that the event which has proved to be a big success since it was initiated in 2009, aims to promote the domestic tourism concept through sports.

Runners from all over the country as well as neighbouring countries are expected to compete in this grueling event.
