3rd Edition of Rock City Marathon to be Held on Sept 4 2011

The Third Edition of Rock City Marathon will be held on September 4, 2011 at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in 
Mwanza.

The annual race which is organized by Capital-Plus International (CPI),an integrated communications firm, and sanctioned by the Athletics Tanzania (AT) and the Mwanza Regional Athletics Association of Tanzania (DAAA) is grouped into four categories.

Co-ordinator of the race, Ms Zaituni Ituja said at launch event of the race at New Africa Hotel in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the main race will cover 21 kilometres for both men and women.

She mentioned other races as a five-kilometre corporate classic race, a three- kilometer race for people with disabilities, a three kilometer race for elderly (55years plus)  and a two-km for children(7-10) .
Ms Ituja said that the event which has proved to be a big success since it was initiated in 2009, aims to promote the domestic tourism concept through sports.
“The half marathon will start at the CCM Kirumba Stadium, taking different routes and back to the stadium for the final lap”, she said.

Official sponsors for this year’s event are Serengeti Breweries (SBL), Geita Gold Mine, Air Tanzania Company Limited, Parastatal Pensions Fund (PPF), Bank M, MOIL, National Social Security Fund (NSSF), New Mwanza Hotel, Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB).

Runners from all over the country as well as neighbouring countries are expected to compete in this grueling event.

Registration fees raised from participants in these races will go to a fund supporting people with disabilities in Mwanza.

Registration forms will be available at CCM Kirumba Stadium offices, Capital- Plus International Limited offices at ATC House 3rd Floor, Athletics Tanzania (AT) headquarters in Dar es Salaam offices, and Athletics Tanzania (AT) Mwanza offices.
